    Coating & Impregnation:
During the coating process a fabric will be covered with a paste like chemical, which typically will be dried in the following tunnel. The coating becomes basically a layer on top of the fabric. That said, the fabric can be coated from both sides.
Coating is not to be confused with impregnation.

An impregnation uses a more liquid type of chemical which has the ability to penetrate the fabric. Often, the fabric is submerged in the chemical, allowing for sufficient saturation. Then follows a dry-tunnel.

Last, but not least, there is a “kiss-roll-technique”
in which a partially submerged drum picks up some chemical to apply it to the
fabric. Often, this is a very thin application of chemical.
In very efficient weaving factories, weaving is connected to a coating or impregnation
    line.
